So atheists think it's "unethical" to tell your kids there's a God and a Santa...what about the tooth fairy?

It's the tooth fairy more acceptable because she's presumably non-Chrisitan?

So atheists think it's "unethical" to tell your kids there's a God and a Santa...what about the tooth fairy?
I'm an atheist and I don't think it's unethical to tell your kids Santa Claus and the tooth fairy exist. I had a lot of fun believing in them! But children are acquiring information about the world quickly and uncritically, and so they will believe much of what you say without question. So I think it is unethical to say as a fact that there is a god(s), especially if you are limiting which god(s) it is. I also think it would be unethical to say as a fact that there are no gods.
Reply:I never said it was unethical. By the way, Santa is a bit non-Christian too.
Reply:Fairies in general should not be talked about. I myself have always been opposed to fairies.
Reply:Who told you that?

I'd quite happily tell my children there's santa, until they're older.

As for go, I don't think I'd say there was, nor that there wasn't until I was either asked by them, or they reached an age I thought was appropriate, at which point I would explain my lack of faith, but also explain the concept of a god and leave the choice to them.

As for the tooth fairy... Well, what's wrong about bribing children to rip out their teeth if they feel loose?
Reply:Yep, the tooth fairy too. I'll be letting my kiddo know that the tooth fairy is also a "fun game" to play. If the kiddo isn't interested, the game won't be played.
Reply:I don't think it's unethical to tell my children about God and Santa. I think it's unethical to brain wash a child before they even have the chance to form their own opinion.

Why do all Christians insist on making generalizations like this? It just proves their ignorance.
Reply:I find that it is morally questionable to lie for any purpose.

Tooth fairy included.
Reply:Sure is...all stories alleging the existence of mythical beings, religious or otherwise should not be told to children in a perfect world.
Reply:you can't solve all the worlds (and peoples) problems hon. just let some things be and bother not in such affairs. you being right on this one is of no value but to yourself right?
Reply:I would have no problem telling any hypothetical children that Santa, Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy exist. I believe children are a lot smarter than some give them credit for. I know as a child I listened to the stories of The Tooth Fairy, but I knew it was my Dad who put the money there. And besides, I haven't seen any legislation coming up for voting that would force Fairy doctrine to be taught at school.
Reply:I don't lie to my fiance's daughter about any of those things (i.e. tooth fairy, Santa etc)

We're teaching her how important the truth is, so why lie?
Reply:who said that? all of my children did comparative religion at school, all got 'A's and one is definitely an atheists two may be agnostic. i don't really know because i don't ask them about religion. and one of the saddest moments in my life was when my oldest daughters told me that her friend's mother had told her that santa didn't exist and i had to confirm it. a little bit of the magic went out of christmas.
Reply:SSShhhhh!!! I just had my last fitting for my wings on Tuesday. If the Tooth Fairy does not exist... well...there goes my extra job!

Otherwise, you seem to have answered your own question.... anything to invalidate religion is acceptable in their eyes.

Have a blessed day.
Reply:what about the myth of evolution an easily disproven theory?

unscramble santas name.
Reply:its very comical that some atheist say that teaching yur children about God, and TRUTH is child abuse... i mean, how oblivious can you be.. teaching your child that there is a greater loving power watching over them, and loving them, and will handle all their problems... teaching them to love others as we are supposed to according to the Bible... and to be selfless and giving beings... yeah, that is sooo child abuse!!(heavy sarcasm)

if you ask me, i believe its child abuse to tell your children without a doubt that there isnt a god, or heaven or anything like that... becaue unlike teaching your children truth, you are ultimately responsible for their judgement in the end...children look up to their parents, and most likely go in the same direction as the parent... so, if a parent is constantly "preaching" that there is no god and its just a fairy tale, they will most likely hold to that belief... so, my question is, how can they call truth child abuse, but being responsible for their childs eternal suffering, isnt??
Reply:I really would not know what an atheist thinks about the tooth fairy, but, if I had to guess, I would think they would see it as one big conspiracy by the Christians to brainwash their children into becoming Christians. LOL
Reply:fairy tales are cool for children as long as you do not explain them away!
