Tooth fairy question...??

My son(8) lost his sixth baby tooth last night. I was joking with him telling him that the tooth fairy stops coming after the 5th tooth and that he wasn't getting anything for this tooth. ( I think he still believes) Well, I totally forgot to leave money under his pillow last night!! This morning he woke up and was like "What" I didn't get anything?? I played it off saying "see, I told you" He was laughing, not upset. I gave him three dollars for the tooth because I felt really bad. so...if he loses another one should I just not give him anything or do I start the whole tooth fairy thing up again? What would you do?

Well, I think by this time you can let him know there's no tooth fairy....that you're it. My kids kind of suspected already when there were younger. I continued to give them money so when they'd find money they smile 'cause they knew it was me. I gave my teenager money from the "tooth fairy" for a wisdom tooth. He announced where he'd be hiding his tooth for the tooth fairy and thanked me in the morning ;)

Reply:I would not start it up again. Your baby is growing up and it's time that some things stop, like the tooth fairy, especially since you have already told him after the 5th tooth then the tooth fairy stopped coming. He'll be OK with that.
Reply:He's at the age where he's going to figure everything out pretty soon anyway. I teach 3rd grade, and the belief in Santa and the gang is a hot item of debate the entire month of December. You might as well drop the whole thing unless he loses another tooth- then stick to the 5th tooth deal. :)
