So atheists think it's "unethical" to tell your kids there's a God and a Santa...what about the tooth fairy?

It's the tooth fairy more acceptable because she's presumably non-Chrisitan?

So atheists think it's "unethical" to tell your kids there's a God and a Santa...what about the tooth fairy?
I'm an atheist and I don't think it's unethical to tell your kids Santa Claus and the tooth fairy exist. I had a lot of fun believing in them! But children are acquiring information about the world quickly and uncritically, and so they will believe much of what you say without question. So I think it is unethical to say as a fact that there is a god(s), especially if you are limiting which god(s) it is. I also think it would be unethical to say as a fact that there are no gods.
Reply:I never said it was unethical. By the way, Santa is a bit non-Christian too.
Reply:Fairies in general should not be talked about. I myself have always been opposed to fairies.
Reply:Who told you that?

I'd quite happily tell my children there's santa, until they're older.

As for go, I don't think I'd say there was, nor that there wasn't until I was either asked by them, or they reached an age I thought was appropriate, at which point I would explain my lack of faith, but also explain the concept of a god and leave the choice to them.

As for the tooth fairy... Well, what's wrong about bribing children to rip out their teeth if they feel loose?
Reply:Yep, the tooth fairy too. I'll be letting my kiddo know that the tooth fairy is also a "fun game" to play. If the kiddo isn't interested, the game won't be played.
Reply:I don't think it's unethical to tell my children about God and Santa. I think it's unethical to brain wash a child before they even have the chance to form their own opinion.

Why do all Christians insist on making generalizations like this? It just proves their ignorance.
Reply:I find that it is morally questionable to lie for any purpose.

Tooth fairy included.
Reply:Sure is...all stories alleging the existence of mythical beings, religious or otherwise should not be told to children in a perfect world.
Reply:you can't solve all the worlds (and peoples) problems hon. just let some things be and bother not in such affairs. you being right on this one is of no value but to yourself right?
Reply:I would have no problem telling any hypothetical children that Santa, Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy exist. I believe children are a lot smarter than some give them credit for. I know as a child I listened to the stories of The Tooth Fairy, but I knew it was my Dad who put the money there. And besides, I haven't seen any legislation coming up for voting that would force Fairy doctrine to be taught at school.
Reply:I don't lie to my fiance's daughter about any of those things (i.e. tooth fairy, Santa etc)

We're teaching her how important the truth is, so why lie?
Reply:who said that? all of my children did comparative religion at school, all got 'A's and one is definitely an atheists two may be agnostic. i don't really know because i don't ask them about religion. and one of the saddest moments in my life was when my oldest daughters told me that her friend's mother had told her that santa didn't exist and i had to confirm it. a little bit of the magic went out of christmas.
Reply:SSShhhhh!!! I just had my last fitting for my wings on Tuesday. If the Tooth Fairy does not exist... well...there goes my extra job!

Otherwise, you seem to have answered your own question.... anything to invalidate religion is acceptable in their eyes.

Have a blessed day.
Reply:what about the myth of evolution an easily disproven theory?

unscramble santas name.
Reply:its very comical that some atheist say that teaching yur children about God, and TRUTH is child abuse... i mean, how oblivious can you be.. teaching your child that there is a greater loving power watching over them, and loving them, and will handle all their problems... teaching them to love others as we are supposed to according to the Bible... and to be selfless and giving beings... yeah, that is sooo child abuse!!(heavy sarcasm)

if you ask me, i believe its child abuse to tell your children without a doubt that there isnt a god, or heaven or anything like that... becaue unlike teaching your children truth, you are ultimately responsible for their judgement in the end...children look up to their parents, and most likely go in the same direction as the parent... so, if a parent is constantly "preaching" that there is no god and its just a fairy tale, they will most likely hold to that belief... so, my question is, how can they call truth child abuse, but being responsible for their childs eternal suffering, isnt??
Reply:I really would not know what an atheist thinks about the tooth fairy, but, if I had to guess, I would think they would see it as one big conspiracy by the Christians to brainwash their children into becoming Christians. LOL
Reply:fairy tales are cool for children as long as you do not explain them away!

Have you ever heared of the book "What the Dickens the story of the rogue tooth fairy"?
This is a book meant for older children and teens (grades 4 and up). The author, Gregory Maguire, is the author of the adult book "Wicked" that the broadway musical is based on. I read it recently. It was a very good book. I hope you enjoy it!
Reply:it sounds interesting

If a group of people got together and collectively decided not to believe in the Tooth Fairy...?

...(let's call them "athooists" for now) have they founded a new religion? If so why? How does their lack of belief in the Tooth Fairy constitute a "religious belief"???

If a group of people got together and collectively decided not to believe in the Tooth Fairy...?
It signifies a rejection of the faith of the tooth fairy. It's an act of non-belief, not a religious affiliation.
Reply:You can't prove that the Tooth Fairy doesn't exist.
Reply:no. you cant just collectively believe in something and it becomes a religion. you have to make doctrines and stuff.
Reply:It doesn't signify a religious belief. It signifies a disbelief in the tooth fairy...that's all.
Reply:my pizza is burning hey my cat just farted
Reply:It depends strongly on whether or not individuals within that group of original anti-believers intend to go around telling other people to believe what they say.

Which could be perceived as doctrine, btw.

Doctrine + Conversion = Indoctrination.
Reply:Exactly. Good point. And yet the religious still thinks that atheism is a religion.
Reply:I don't know, but I guess you're referring to the religious people saying Atheist have a religion.

Well it their sad attempt to have something in common with you.
Reply:If one of them was the original atoothist prophet and wrote a bunch of unsubstantiated stuff about the undeniable fact that the tooth fairy is a bunch of hoo har.....

....maybe
Reply:Will the tooth fairy SMITE them to prove he exists?
Reply:I have never seen a group of people get together and decide to become atheist.

"ps, silly argument."

Explain. How is it silly?
Reply:atheism is a religion, deal with it.

ps, silly argument.

Christians, what's the differences between having faith in God and having faith in the tooth fairy?

Why not have faith in the tooth fairy? Because she doesn't exist? Well that's because you choose not to have "FAITH" that she exist

Christians, what's the differences between having faith in God and having faith in the tooth fairy?
The tooth fairy doesn't change people's lives and bring them eternal life.
Reply:Please do never mock the Tooth Fairy!
Reply:The Object of your faith determines the results of your faith. Great faith in Santa, Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny will still disappoint you. Little Faith in an Omnipotent, All Knowing %26amp; Omnipresent God (Father, Son %26amp; Holy Spirit) will never let you down or disappoint you. In Peter's case, "little faith" walked on water, while no faith sat in the boat, the 11 others. Oh ye of "little faith."
Reply:Because I am the one that puts money under my kids pillow, therefore I know she is pretend. But when God answers prayers, then that is not pretend. God does things that are without a doubt that it came from him. No-one else could do these things. I you open your heart, you will know what I am talking about.
Reply:I pray to the Tooth Fairy and she does help me in life and has changed my life profoundly. She is the one, the true one!

Enamel be her name!
Reply:You may have faith (or not) in whatever you please. It is known as 'free will'. Please let's don't confuse someones definition of 'a man in the clouds' with the power that moves the Universe. If you don't need to believe that there just might be something after you pass from this physical dimension, so be it. I'm good with you being who you are. I don't feel any need to change you or have you believe in what I may or may not believe. But if there's no tooth fairy who's putting money under my pillow?
Reply:the tooth fairy didn't deliver me from alcoholism.
Reply:Both are subjects of faith. When in doubt of it's existence then thats when faith comes in
Reply:God is real, the tooth fairy is my mum. I have faith in God, he helps everyone out through their problems, wether you choose to beilive that or not.
Reply:Did you catch your mom last night putting money under your pillow?

I'm so sorry. I'll pray for you while your are crying.
Reply:You usually don't have "faith" in fairies. Faith is something that you believe in deeply , it goes further than wondering who is putting money under your pillow...Fairies are/were tales that are told to us when we were young... and even though we were told about God when we were young, He, is what you have faith in, He is the one who has the power to make miracles...He is also one of the most controversial beings on this entire planet. People will choose to believe that if there is a penny on the ground face down that picking it up will bring bad luck so they won't pick it up... but they won't believe that an everyday occurrence such as a baby being born has something to do with a higher spirit or a higher being...

I think your confusing faith with belief... I believe that tomorrow it will rain, I believe that on Christmas Santa Clause will still not exist... but I have faith that God does!

I hope this helps...
Reply:For me, it was

2)God zapped me with an unnatural power. (literally, and it lasted nearly a half hour, it sound psycho in short form, but I don't care)

If God wanted you to believe, you would. But he doesn't so you don't. And even if you did that would not ammount to a hill of beans. Satan believes in God; and so do many people who will not inherit eternal life

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

That is the God.

Evil to those He hates.

God is not wringing his hands just hoping; waiting for people to beleive in him.

I'm not going to take more time with you.

Christians, if I say "God is fake" is that disrespectful? If you say "the tooth fairy is fake"

to a tooth fairy believer, is that disrespectful?

Christians, if I say "God is fake" is that disrespectful? If you say "the tooth fairy is fake"
I guess it depends. As it stands alone, not really, but if you were to add to it; like: You idiot, God is fake. then yes, but if you were to say: In my opinion, God is fake, then no.

It just so happens to be that the tooth fairy is known to be a parent or another person going into the room and putting money under the pillow. So it's not the same. There is no person acting as God, going around doing miracles, while the religous sleep etc.
Reply:I don't think so. God knew there were going to be people who would not believe he existed. It's between you and Him. I guess some people are offended at the idea that people think they are stupid for believing as they do, but I am open to differences of opinion.
Reply:It would be quite rude to say it to a young child, who would be the most likely believer in the Tooth Fairy. I guess you are also expected to treat Christians as young children.
Reply:Are you saying that God wears a mask?
Reply:Your certainly entitled to your opinion. But don't be alarmed if pressed to prove your fake.
Reply:it's hardly the same thing.
Reply:They are both real, so yes it is disrespectful to the both of them.
Reply:No. You have a right to state your beliefs. It WOULD be disrespectful to try to CONVERT a Christian to atheism based upon YOUR beliefs, just as it is disrespectful for Christians to try to convert others to Christianity based upon theirs.
Reply:sadly yes,

if you told a child there is no santa, people would deem that mean and cruel.

i would deem that mean and cruel.

i guess u could view christians as children in that sense.
Reply:Besides a child believing in the tooth fairy, you dont see adults worshipping the tooth fairy.I think its disrespectful for you to put my faith down.I dont put yours down.
Reply:I would hope that you could see the difference between the importance of God in someone's life, versus the existence of the Tooth Fairy.

I wouldn't say that it is disrespectful, if that is your view. The word 'fake' is a little lame, however. Saying God doesn't exist is more appropriate. And if that is your true belief, then you are entitled to it. Just don't taunt people with this statement, or use it as a weapon. We are all open to feeling and thinking whatever we choose...just don't criticize others for their beliefs...
Reply:yes

lets face it noone really believes in fairies
Reply:disrespectful?

...eh..no.

But you don't have to rub it in and be sarcastic and cruel about it.

:)
Reply:I am a believer and I do not find your opinion disrespectful. What I find disrespectful is forcing your opinions on me through the law. Do you do that? Christians try to do that, don't they!
Reply:It would be insensitive.
Reply:yeah.....like you can compare God and the tooth fairy and put them on an equal plane.

come on, even you can do better than that.

what foolishness.
Reply:Disrespectful to God, that's for sure. I sure hope you wouldn't say that in front of my little children. That would really be disrespectful. But, if that is the way you believe, then you are entitled to believe that. God did give us, after all, the freedom to choose.
Reply:What is up with you comparing the tooth fairy with God? What if you say the tooth fairy is fake is that disrespectful?
Reply:What a silly question.

Is the tooth fairy in control of everything? Is the tooth fairy the Creator of the world and the Savior of the world? No. The tooth fairy has no comparison to God, and obviously does not exist, just like santa and the easter bunny---the world made these things up and now uses God as the same thing- when God is the ONLY God who exists. The one who denies God is the one who will not inherit the kingdom of heaven, and will be judged accordingly.

Matthew 10:33

but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

1 John 2:22

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:23

No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
Reply:Not really; but if Christians say that atheists are idots, you will be plucking your hair, tearing up your clothing and ranting and raving like a mad man.
Reply:If you say it and you are a non believer I mean what else can I expect...you would not be disrespecting me becuse I know that GOD IS REAL!!! And yes I would tell my child that a tooth fairy doesnt exist otherwise I am lying to her. Thou shalt not lie.
Reply:I agree with "ws348": Its hardly the same thing!

The toothfairy gives me money under my pillow, but God makes my parents pay Him every week! Is God one of those "confidence artists"?
Reply:No, you'd only be stating your opinion. It would only be disrespectful if you tried to force your belief about it on the person.
Reply:This is a moot question.

The latest concept of God is not a myth, it is a theory. We are called to seek out and understand the God consciousness in the universe (forget about the mythology of scripture). It is a very long search and the data acquired along the way is so vast that it is not verifiable with other human beings. That also means that faith in God is a completely personal matter.

If your life consists only of hating or simply attacking theists, then you are wasting your life away. The rest of us are not, we are learning.
Reply:there shall we weeping and gnashing of teeth God is real please do not reject the plan of salvation (for whosoever calls upon the lord shall be saved) dont go to hell for anyone)
Reply:Look stop and think about your question. Is there a complete religion about fairies? Is there a book describing them that is over 2000 years old?Is there more than4 million followers ?Disrespectfully ,YES!
Reply:No, but if my gay dentist gets your address he will give you such a pinch!
Reply:It's ok for me
Reply:Dear Black Athiest, this goes back to the original question, "why belive in Jesus and not the spaghetti Monster question.

The answer is that we have evidence in History and science that God exist, we have evidence that he has a hand in Human affairs. The toothfairy/santaclause argument in falacious, because, #1, these stories were designed as fables, they were meant for the entertainment of Children and have no eveidence to corroborate the, The writings concerning Jesus/God's existence exhibit an historical, cultural, religious, and political context with verifiable names, events, and places being an integral part of the record of that context and reality. Santa Claus/toothfairy stories do not contain any such integral contextualization exceptfor example to state that there is a north pole and that there are cities and countries where Santa visits at night. For an atheist to reject Jesus'/Gods existence based on arguments found against Santa Claus/toothfairy demonstrates the inability for the atheist to distinguish between historical verifiable documents and known constructed children's' stories.

Secondly, The Characters Santa Clause, and the Flying spaghetti Monster will not and cannot reveal themselves, but in contrast, Jesus/God's existence is in part uniuque, because God has revealed himself to mankind and will reveal himself, to all who will repent (turnf rom sin) and trust in Him. I was once very cynical toward the idea of God and Jesus and the BIble, I was very skeptical of claims that a "god"existed who would reveal himself, to anyone, I thought it was simply a delusion in the minds of those who had been brainwashed in Church. I persited in this View, until God did speak to me through his word with a very clear message. The message was Galatians 1:6-9 ": ”I am astonished you are so quickly removed from the Gospel you have heard to another, apparently there are some who have confused you and perverted the Gospel of Christ, but if any man preach unto you any other, then let them be eternally Condemned.” This was shocking to me! After all, I didnt belive in God or the BIble! Nevertheless, this caused me to re-examine my own cynicysm, and I Challenged the promise of God to save me and grant me everlasting life. I looked into the light of Gods Law (ten Commandments). God hates lying, stealing, blapshemy, adultery fornication, and covetousness ect. i was very guilty of these, and understood that the penalty for sin is death and Hell, two places I would have neevr considered to even be real! Once I understood my sin, I understood why Christ died, I broke the Law, and Jesus paid my fine, he graciously took the penalty i deserved, even though I rebeled against him and called him a blatant fairy tell. I then repented (turned from sin) and placed my faith and trust in HIm as he commanded, and the Moment i did, it was as if scales had fallen from my eyes! my Blinded eyes were opened unot eternal life , I have been forgiven, and changed and made a new creature in Christ. I am now a follower and advocate of the message of Salvation. Im glad, that I was able to overcome my pride, because it was my pride that kept me from God and his plan of salvation. Please, Do not Let pride keep you from Christ, because "pride comes before the fall." Repent and trust in Jesus today.

God Bless

I figured out about the tooth fairy first.. and in the moments of confrontation with my mother about where my teeth were I figured out about the Easter Bunny as well. It took me a few more months to catch on about Santa.

Who did you figure out was BS first? Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy?

All i keep hearing from foolish minds is that the CREATOR of this Universe is in the same class %26amp; catagory of Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Lepracauns, Flying Monkeys....etc, ect...

So why then isn't there any Hate Groups like Atheists against these OBVIOUS fictional characters?

Why is it that they are ONLY against those people who LOVE %26amp; Honor the Lord Our GOD? A.K.A Jesus Christ

it's hard for me to fathom that FOOLS give up the chance of ETERNAL LIFE, %26amp; mock %26amp; ridicule those who KNOW they are Heaven Bound, but how come they cant find any reason to Hate Santa, Easter Bunny, etc.. which are Blatant fictional characters Invented to deliberately REMOVE Jesus Christ from the hearts %26amp; minds of children!..adults too, unfortunatly.

Reply:Yes, Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy are all made up, and so are gods.

There is no evidence for a historical Jesus. If you'd open your mind to reality, you'd actually learn something, and free yourself from the bondage of ancient superstitions.

Did a historical Jesus exist?

http://www.nobeliefs.com/exist.htm

[Excerpt]

ALL CLAIMS OF JESUS DERIVE FROM HEARSAY ACCOUNTS

No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Jesus. Devastating to historians, there occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus got written well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings. Although one can argue that many of these writings come from fraud or interpolations, I will use the information and dates to show that even if these sources did not come from interpolations, they could still not serve as reliable evidence for a historical Jesus, simply because all sources derive from hearsay accounts.

Hearsay means information derived from other people rather than on a witness' own knowledge.

Courts of law do not generally allow hearsay as testimony, and nor does honest modern scholarship. Hearsay provides no proof or good evidence, and therefore, we should dismiss it.

Reply:You said it yourself: everyone knows those characters are made-belief. There is no need to tell everyone what they already know.

Christians go to such great lengths to convert others, because they believe that non-believers do not truly understand God. Well, atheists do the same thing. They try to explain a new view to Christians: that God does not exist.

The only fools are those people who are so set in their ways that they refuse to learn something new about the world. If you do not understand atheists, why do you label them as fools? Maybe if you had a decent, respectful conversation with one, you'd have a better idea of what they believed, and why.

Why isn't God as nice a person, just like Santa and the Tooth Fairy?

Santa and the Tooth Fairy are quite nice and they give cool stuff and cash to kids, especially well-behaved (and wealthy) kids.

On the other hand....

No matter how good kids are, all God does is put the religious gun against kids' heads and tells them "Worship me or you'll be PWN3D!!!"

(OK, God created this world for us to enjoy, but, heck, that was 6000 years ago!!! What does he do for a living these days?)

Why isn't God as nice a person, just like Santa and the Tooth Fairy?
The tooth fairy and Santa are fairly tales for children. As they grow older, they cease to believe in them.

Organized religion has as much basis in fact as Santa, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy. They are real, only so long as you believe in them.

Man created God, I don't understand why he didn't create a more tolerant figure,. that would be loved instead of feared.
Reply:He's just like Santa, just with an extra EXTRA long naughty list!
Reply:Because god had father and mother issues growing up
Reply:you still living arn't you!!!! every day that you wake up is a gift from god. and god is not an angry god.
Reply:He is nice. He gave you life. Santa couldnt do that
Reply:He's nice to me, maybe he just does not like you.

Kidding.

I dunno.
Reply:Because he's a myth, just like the tooth fairy and santa.
Reply:Without God, there would be no santa or tooth fairy to give you stuff.
Reply:It depends on how you define G-d. If you think he's like a Santa that is supposed to give you this and that when you pray, disappointment is certain. IMO, G-d doesn't work that way. For me, he is there waiting to share with me my joy and pain, like a good friend and/or therapist. I don't feel like a gun is to my head if I don't worship him. And also it depends on how you define worship... I rarely go to any religious services but I worship him just the same. I keep the sabbath at home, enjoy the world I believe he created and I continue to strive to be the best me I can be... for me, that's honoring/worshipping G-d.

I used to feel that he was a mean G-d because of religious training I had as a child, but I opened myself up to reading all kinds of opinions of others, attended bible studies of other religious groups and then decided for myself.
Reply:He gave you life and the gift of salvation through Jesus!

Christians, why can't you understand that God to Atheists is like the tooth fairy to you?

Just imagine someone saying,

"You need to accept the tooth fairy before it's to late"

Does that sound retarded or what?

You sound like a bunch of dellusional crazy people

Christians, why can't you understand that God to Atheists is like the tooth fairy to you?
Yes we have been told until you guys have become redundant that we should understand that God is not real. And we have answered back just as often that you have no faith and that is fine but do not begreudge me mine. I do not belittle you because you do not believe. I might wish I could talk you into belief but I know that if you do not want to hear then you wont. So I respect your right to be an atheist and wish you would respect mine to be a Christian. Is that too much to ask?
Reply:alrighty then. oz has spoken!
Reply:You should study other Religions in a professional atmosphere before you go putting other peoples' Religions down. Many Christians don't put Atheism down. That's between you and whoever.
Reply:Simple. Because the Christians can use historical and scientific evidence to corroborate what is in the Bible.

Can't do THAT with the tooth fairy.

But you can believe whatever you want to. I just hope you're right.
Reply:Is someone harassing you to believe in God again, they should just leave you alone.

A Christian.
Reply:I don't waste my time ridiculing those who do believe in thew tooth fairy.... why do the Atheists feel that they must ridicule christians?
Reply:than why are you here? why not spend your time on something else if god does not exist....no atheist has answered this question yet
Reply:We do understand that, which is one reason why some of us do not program our children to believe in such things as the tooth fairy or santa claus.

In teaching our children to believe in such things and then one day telling them that they are not real, we have programmed them to shove Jesus Christ, their personal Lord and Savior into the same category as the tooth fairy and santa, just as you have done here today. Sad!
Reply:Swoosh.......over the heads it went.
Reply:You have to understand that there's more to belief in God than you'd guess from talking to the average fundamentalist.

Have you read any of the classical philosophical arguments for God's existence? Anselm? Aquinas? Kant? Hartshorne? Crack those (some of the greatest minds in human history) and then decide if God is in the same category as the tooth fairy.

If you're an atheist without ever having engaged the most potent arguments for theism, you're a pretty poor atheist.
Reply:i understand it, i'm not saying that to you.
Reply:Tell me if this sounds delusional. I don't believe in Space Aliens so I hang out in UFO questions and answers trying to prove to all the UFO people that space aliens don't exist. I am either 1. Not secure in my disbelief of aliens or 2. Just a disrespectful jerk that likes to see people get upset.

I hope you are not secure in your beliefs.

:)

May GOD richly bless you anyway.
Reply:You just quoted just what the Bible sya you would say, Ummmm.

Interesting%26gt;

1Cr 2:14 But people who aren't Christians can't understand these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means.

1Cr 2:15 We who have the Spirit understand these things, but others can't understand us at all.
Reply:its understandable what they think, but it's our job to introduce them to jesus, and some times we do win souls so you don't give up you keep trying
Reply:You are 100% correct.

Talking to a Fundie is like talking to a lead brick.

BTW, I'm not trying to slam the moderate people who come here to openly discuss things!

(How many 'I forgive yous' is this going to generate!!!?)
Reply:So, uh, does this tooth fairy have a church set up? Lord knows I don't want to burn in tooth fairy hell.
Reply:To be blunt like you. Why can't you understand that no God the Christians is like no life (suicide, no meaning) to Atheists. If were not here for a purpose, then there's no reason to stay. Your life means nothing to yourself. Now how sad and pathetic is that?
Reply:Why can't you understand that's between you and God? Gods got His own covered. We'll see who is retarded, delusional and crazy in the end. OK?
Reply:There is a reason why they sound deillusional-most of them are!

Why is Black Atheist here? because he cares about the world he lives in and would desperately like to keep others from being spiritually abused by Xtianity's message of death.
Reply:I'm a Christian, but what you want to believe or not believe isn't really my business, nor my concern.

I'm far from delusional and/or crazy. What I don't understand is why people such as yourself feel the need to attack someone's opposing viewpoint and/or belief?
Reply:You don't believe in the tooth fairy?Everybody knows the tooth fairy exists!
Reply:I used to be an atheist. Do you not know that your question is not rational? seeing I know your mind? as I once was just like you... How is it you atheists can not understand this simple thing?
Reply:OK, show me some type of circumstantial evidence that the tooth fairy came back from the dead and started a movement that totally changed the world, and maybe I'll believe you.

--------------------------------------...

...Frank Morrison, a British lawyer of the 1930s, undertook an expedition to collect circumstantial evidence to disprove the resurrection. Such evidence, of course, is admissible in all courts of law in civilised countries to prove or disprove events of which there are no living eyewitnesses. When he analysed the evidence, he reached a stunning conclusion: The resurrection had actually taken place! Morrison presented his case in his book, "Who Moved the Stone?"

Another factor worth considering is the character of the disciples. They were eleven cowardly men who shut themselves in a room after the crucifixion because they were afraid. Yet what galvanized them into action so that within their own lifetime, much of the thenknown world could hear the message of Christ? Some of them paid for this message with their lives. Would they have done so if the resurrection were a hoax?...
Reply:I do understand and I'm sure there is no words powerful enough to convince you otherwise. However, that does not exclude my right to my views and opinion or being allowed to voice them just like you.
Reply:If they could just get this through their heads, it would be possible to have a real conversation with them.

If when you were a child, you really believed santa claus or the tooth fairy existed then when you found out?

it was your parents, why didn't you carry on believing they existed and it was just you who wasn't getting visited? Nobody ever seems to think there might be a reason why santa or the tooth fairy never wants to visit them personally.

If when you were a child, you really believed santa claus or the tooth fairy existed then when you found out?
When the tooth fairy doesn't give a kid enough for a tooth, the kid is quick to complain to the parents... hmmmmmm

Kids are not stup[id, it's adults who are stupid, as children we know better, we are taught to acept certain things in order to fit in...
Reply:I believe in Santa, he lives in the hearts of young children all across the world. I was 24 when Santa quit sending me gifts, of course that was the same year my grandfather died.*coincidence*??

Personally I think it is just neat for the kids, and they enjoy it. Also my oldest just realized that there is no Santa(fat man that brings gifts) so now he is Santa to my other child, he gets to pick her Santa gift! until she realizes it and they they can alternate! there is always a Santa in my house, even if it is not the one we see on TV!

I can prove there is not a little fat man putting gifts down my chimney can you prove there is not a God??
Reply:You are pretty young when you start realizing that there isnt a Santa. I suspected it and then pretty much knew for sure when I saw my Santa present in the trunk of the car during a Toys R Us trip and my dad thought we werent near the car.

Kids arent as naive and stupid as some people think, lol.

You claim there is no evidence of God. Proof of God is a personal revelation by God. People that have been given this personal revelation have the proof they need. They cant prove the proof to you, but you cant unprove it to them or claim they didnt ever receive it, because you have no clue what kind of personal revelation an individual has been given.

What if my mother confesses that she had an affair on her deathbed. Both people are now dead and I cant prove it ever happened, but based on what she told me I now know she had one. I tell my dad and he doesnt believe me. I cant ever prove it to him. I cant ever make him believe me when I say she told me this. He doesnt want to believe me.

Does it mean she never had the affair?

Your premise is faulty because you claim that no proof exists when people that believe in God claim that they received all the proof they need.
Reply:Mrs WC here.

I believed in Santa until I was 11. I was so excited to get to bed so he could bring my gifts that Christmas Eve. My mother informed me on that night that there was no Santa. I was crushed. I argued that the TV radar showed where he was and that I had mailed him my list. Momma told me that it was a faked image on the TV and that I could stay up and help HER be Santa for my brother and sisters. I still got gifts from "Santa" tho, so my siblings wouldn't think I was a bad girl. LOL
Reply:I was always too smart for that stuff...
Reply:The evidence to prove God isn't real? Which evidence? If you show me evidence that god doesn't exist I will denounce him right here on YA. No one has really given evidence that God does not exist; but everyone seems to claim that there is such evidence.
Reply:Because so many religious followers don't believe in god to believe in god. They do it to appease the masses.
Reply:I never believed in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus as a child, and I didn't believe in God until I got much older.

Please stop with the Santa and God comparisons. It's seriously getting old.

Does anyone know of a horror film with something to do with the TOOTH FAIRY?

Its something like the pshyco killer is called the tooth fairy but its meant to be well scary and quite 'wrong' in a few places! Does anyone know what it is called cos I am dying to see it!!!!

Does anyone know of a horror film with something to do with the TOOTH FAIRY?
Darkness Falls- I went blind for a week because of that film, I'm never seeing THAT again, I'd rather eat my own face.
Reply:darkness falls
Reply:"Darkness Falls" is the film you seek.

it's really good.
Reply:Yeah I saw it. I didn't think it was very good and I like a lot of horror movies. I'm trying to think of the movie title but I'm blanking...are you sure it wasn't just called The Tooth Fairy? It's a few years old if I remember right.
Reply:Darkness falls, its really good too, scared the **** outa me
Reply:Darkness Falls
Reply:Darkness Falls has a ghost tooth fairy, but I think you mean Manhunter or Red Dragon, the first Hannibal Lecter story.
Reply:well i thought it was terry pratchets hogfather caus they have the toothfairy in that but everyone else says darkness falls so i think that sounds right!
Reply:I wanna say Darkness Falls and it was actually not that bad of a movie
Reply:There was also a movie just called "Tooth Fairy" because I rented it and brought it home for my grandkids to watch. One of them is a big fan of horror movies and he and I watched it.
Reply:The Tooth Fairy and Darkness Falls.

These are two old pictures.

Reply:If you're talking about the one I've seen, it's called 'Darkness Falls'.

Check it out:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0282209/
Reply:I'm with Emily H on this one - the Tooth Fairy was the serial killer in Manhunter, the first film featuring Hannibal Lector.

This film was based on the book 'Red Dragon', which was also the title used when the film was remade after Anthony Hopkins made the part of Lector his own.

Couldn't the same thing that you apply to the existence of God be applied to the existence of the tooth fairy?

My proof of it is my faith.I have faith that the tooth fairy exists.

To any questions? The tooth fairy works in complex ways, too complex for you to understand.

If the tooth fairy doesn't exist, how else does a dollar appear under your pillow in exchange for a tooth?

See what I mean?

Couldn't the same thing that you apply to the existence of God be applied to the existence of the tooth fairy?

the tooth fairy didnt die for us!!!

Reply:Yep. Right on the money, no pun intended.
Reply:you lie the tooth fairy is real i know it she is Santa's girlfriend
Reply:You're argument was good until you mentioned the dollar. That was complete nonsense. Besides, I only got a quarter!
Reply:you faith in the tooth fairy is yours.

I got no money for my baby teeth. So I know it doesn't exist, by you theory.
Reply:LOL.

BUT... was it the tooth fairy's will that I lose the tooth? Should I have waited for it to fall out naturally? Was I messing with the will of the toothfairy when I pulled it? And why does the tooth fairy allow pain? Isn't ambasol an abomination unto the tooth fairy?

I think I better stop now.......
Reply:Completely agree. Also, consider this. Lets say a person believes in the christian god but does not believe in gods of other cultures. Why not? There is as much evidence to support those gods and there are (or were in cases of ancient gods) people who believe in them just as much as the person. If that person does not believe in the other gods then that person wanting people to believe in his god is hypocritcal.
Reply:Exactly, now at least one person besides me is using their brain .

It works the same way as god .

When I was little I " prayed to the Tooth fairy for a dollar ,all I got was a quarter ,So I only believed 25% in the toothfairy .

Cheapskate !!! lol
Reply:there is historical evidence that Jesus walked this Earth that is the difference.
Reply:Yes, and the same with leprechauns and fairies. For me, belief in santa claus and god were connected, and I started doubting god when I discovered that santa wasn't real. It's the exact same thing! I would probably get the same results asking santa for what I wanted as praying to god. Reminds me of the George Carlin bit about praying to Joe Pesci.
Reply:it could apply to oh, so many things.

My proof of it is my faith.I have faith that you ask these questions because you are a hater.

To any questions? your hate works in complex ways, too complex for anyone to understand or care about.

If these questions don't exist because you are not a hater, how else does two points appear in my account in exchange for my answer?

See what I mean?
Reply:You are so right about applying your faith, but apply wisdom as well.....I also once believed in the tooth fairy as a kid until I caught my mother putting a quarter under my younger sister's pillow for her tooth.....at least your mother adjusts for inflation, cost of living and economy status.....after that, I still have yet for God to let me down concerning His existence.....believe me and the other respondents when we say "it's your mother behind all this".....straight up sentiments, and His blessings to you.....

My mother isn't going to tell my little brother about the tooth fairy because she 'is a pagan symbol'...

Should I give my brother 20.00$, every time I go out to MN to see him that would otherwise go to books, because my mom is a fundie nut who would let him be visited by the 'tooth fairy' who is a part of a normal child hood?

My mother isn't going to tell my little brother about the tooth fairy because she 'is a pagan symbol'...
Really no need to give him money. That's not what he needs from you. Hopefully your mother, despite her views, will ensure he is well-provided for. OK, he doesn't get the fun of the tooth fairy, but what you can do for him is have fun of any sort with him when you visit. He won't suffer hugely from the lack of the tooth fairy and her money, but he does need a sense of fun and imagination to carry him through. And you can certainly help with that side of his life.

Fantasy Girl, I am sorry for your kids. Is fantasy reserved for you? Why are you depriving them of the imaginative symbolism which helps them develop psychologically? Are you going to refuse to read them fairy stories, too? Children are undergoing huge psychological upheaval and need stories and fantasies which can make their fear, murderous feelings, rage etc acceptable. That's been the purpose of these things, just as the tooth fairy makes the pain and difficulty of a wobbly tooth bearable.
Reply:Naw, just give him some hugs. They are worth far more than money.
Reply:wow your mom is a cra-cra
Reply:If that is the case, your mom not telling your brother about the tooth fairy will probably only be the tip of the iceberg.
Reply:I ain't going to lie to my kids neither. They aren't going to believe in Santa. I don't believe you should start a child out on a foundation of lies.
Reply:Better tell her she shouldn't celebrate Easter or Christmas, either, then. She's in for a nasty shock.
Reply:I think you should hit your mother with a shovel.

What an evil woman.
Reply:Yes tell him Tooth Jesus gave it to him..sheeesh..joyless bunch them.
Reply:If you want to.

Right or wrong, your mom is the one to decide on the tooth fairy -- I think she is over-reacting, but it's still her choice. The world is full of pagan symbols, if she carried it out in every instance, she'd be having a very sparse existence
Reply:I would give him 5 or something! but 20 is a bit much.
Reply:yes thats what a good sister should do! That is so sweet, definately and your mom sounds terrible.
Reply:Most kids in the world grow up just fine without the tooth fairy, which is uniquely American.

If you want to give him money, that's fine I guess, but let's not pretend it's going to make a big difference in his life. He won't believe in the tooth fairy no matter what you do because his mother will tell him it's not true. So that $20 will be considered to be a gift from you, not the tooth fairy.
Reply:Personally, I think your mom is a little silly for that being the reason not to tell him about the tooth fairy, but if he knows the tooth fairy isn't real, I doubt it'll hurt him emotionally or mentally or anything. I wouldn't be to concerned, but if you just want to give him money to be nice, then I'm sure he'd be one happy camper.
Reply:The kid is young, over time he will discern for himself what to believe and what not to. For now I don't see any harm in giving him some money and saying that the Tooth Fairy came by the wrong house or whatever you would say. It would at least make him think more and become more creative. so sure give him the money, it's a little bit of money that would go a long way. Who knows he may use that money to buy books himself or something productive, then again he may just use it to buy candy lol.
Reply:Give him lots and lots of books!

It sounds like his education will need rounding out, so get him addicted to loving to learn.
Reply:Just buy him the books... and get her a kokopelli shower curtain for her birthday.
Reply:He's going to find out in... kindergarden... (not sure what you call it in America %26gt;.%26lt;)

No point in sheltering him from the EVIL TOOTH-FAIRY!

$20? I used to get £1! lol1

I'd give him something and teach him the wonders of tooth-fairies anyway... Lord of the Rings will be a real shock to the system otherwise... ;)
Reply:Yeah and Christmas is "not" a pagan ritual...
Reply:Obviously it is up to you, and you know your bro better than I... but I did not grow up with a belief in the tooth fairy and I wasn't disappointed.

Especially if she never tells him about it... he won't miss what he never knew, I guess.
Reply:From your obvious intent, it would appear that you will indeed indoctrinate your own children into the lies of this world because "it's normal"?

Who's the normal one here?
Reply:When I became an Atheist I decided to not play the tooth fairy and santa game. Why should you make your children believe in myths? I want my kids to know that I always tell them the truth. There fine with it. We still give money for lost teeth and presents at Christmas. Now we get the credit and not some make believe people.

I wouldn't worry so much about not believing in the tooth fairy but make sure your brother is a critical thinker. Give him money and teach him the value of it. Accompany him to the book store and pick out some science books.
Reply:The tooth fairy is non-denominational. There is no religious symbolism to it at all. Feel free to give money to your brother. I'm sure he won't object. Don't however presume that your views on the topic are any more valid than someone else's. You need to respect your mother's views on this part of child rearing. You might also want to consider that if your brother is growing up differently than you did, HE may feel differently than you.
Reply:The tooth fairy is a pagan symbol?

Huh...I never knew that. I suppose unicorns (pink and blue), leprachauns (much in evidence today, btw), flying horses, and elephants who talk to Whos on dust specks are all "pagan symbols" as well....

Oh, well...there is always Dumbo!!

Oh, wait...isn't the stork a pagan symbol?

We all know that the Easter Bunny is pagan, as is our Christmas, and of course, Halloween. I'm sure birthdays must be pagan as well....

You know, if Jesus didn't have such a hold on my heart, I might consider becoming a pagan myself!

They have all the fun!!!!!

*pout*

Ummm...but I am a Christian, and I celebrate all of these things, including the tooth fairy, who, since I have seven grown kids and fourteen grandkids, along with various "others", has cost me a pretty sum.

Maybe your Mom is just being cheap??
Reply:Yes, the tooth fairy is American folklore (not sure about the pagan symbol) but I guess if your mother doesn't want him to know about it then fine.

I would still think your mom should "reward" him for losing his baby teeth though somehow. So if she isn't even going to do that then you might.
Reply:did santa come to your house growing up? if so, lying to your children is worse than telling them about the tooth fairy.
Reply:No! Those $20 could go to books for you OR to a book or toy for him! $20 is a lot for a tooth...I got a penny, and that was in the mid-90s...
Reply:i don't think its very important to be visited by the tooth fairy . its your moms choice anyway not yours... even if she is a bit extreme. lying to kids is awful i lie to mine about santa and the easter bunny and i hate it....my sister was so hoorified that our mom lied to her about santa that she didnt forgive her for years she felt so betrayed.... personally i think would have to be thick to really believe in these things after the age of seven or eight ...not that im calling my sis thick but come on??????
Reply:Your mother is doing the right thing. It is not a good thing to teach our children to lie at such a young age. When they learn the truth that is is no santa clause, easter bunny or tooth fairy, it is a huge letdown and the children realize they have been lied to.

So in a sense the parents contradict themselves when they teach the children it is wrong to lie, but the children realize their parents lie to them.
Reply:Well I will tell you that since energy and intention go up to the astral plane spin around and manifest that centuries of children praying to the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus have made them fairly serious thought forms. When I was in Catholic school we were taught to pray to a Woman who gave birth without having sex to a man who died and came back to life. I really think that the Tooth Fairy and Santa are right in the running there. It is all a matter of faith :)
Reply:Why is it so important to you for your brother to believe a lie?

Please be respectful of your mother's wishes, afterall, it is her child.

When you become a mother, then you have the right to practice whatever you wish with your children.

As one poster said " give him hugs.....hugs are better."

I agree.
Reply:How silly, on your mom's part. I guess now imagination is a bad thing. I think I'd give him $5 to $10.

Is comparing Tom Brady to God like comparing Tom Brady to the Tooth Fairy?

Since both God and the Tooth Fairy have about an equal chance of being proven to exist.

Is comparing Tom Brady to God like comparing Tom Brady to the Tooth Fairy?
You got it, but I'm surprised that the Beantown newspapers didn't compare Tom Brady to the devil when he was photographed in that NY Yankees hat...
Reply:fine fine... just tell me who Tom Brady is?

edit: wait a sec... one of the Brady Bunch?
Reply:YES
Reply:Dont be disrespectful.

Its probably more like comparing him to Santa.
Reply:who is tom brady

I dont recall any toms on the brady bunch
Reply:Yes.

Tom Brady went to Michigan.

EDIT: For the people who don't know, Tom Brady is the quarterback for the New England Patriots.
Reply:Actually comparing Tom Brady to God is just like comparing George Bush to God or Buddah to God for that matter. You're basically comparing mere human existence to God - for which nothing compares.
Reply:Pathetic that you should stoop so low! This isn't a reflection on God, but on YOU. (Only foolish people ask foolish questions).
Reply:There is better chance of proving God's existence. So, compare Tom Brady to the Tooth Fairy and tread lightly when you consider the possibility of blaspheming your possible creator.
Reply:who is that...we dont agree cuz I Know God exists....dont know this other guy NAD THE TOOTH FAIRY IS FAKE...SEE myths
Reply:Why? Who is Tom Brady?
Reply:The leading legal minds in history have come out in favour of believing the testimony of the witnesses of the resurrection to be capable witnesses from honest men. Check out the book leading lawyers look at the resurrection by Ross Clifford. Now I don't know of anyone who would be foolish enough to defend the tooth fairy in a legal setting. It is bad strategy to try and undermine a faith by creating a false and easily disprovable argument in order to try and undermine a legitimate belief system. Think about it. Who would swear in a court room or take a lie detector and claim they believed in the tooth fairy under threat of perjury and punishment. I know I will probably get thumbs down but what I won't get is intelligent rebuttal.
Reply:Sure, why not? Since you've mentioned him, I've gotta tell ya: I love that guy!! I think he's got a lot to do with the fact that the rabid Steelers fans here in Pittsburgh are nice and quiet this year.

Please help me......i need a special note for my son from "the tooth fairy"?

my son lost a tooth today,he is age 5 and im no good at writting letter and such, will someone please help me write him a special note from "the tooth fairy", my son's name is emmit. we are broke so so we want to make a note /like a coupon.....saying he gets a free candy bar or a special treat!!!!! thanks all

please dont be mean!

Please help me......i need a special note for my son from "the tooth fairy"?
That's a cute idea! Maybe you could try:

Dear Emmit,

Today I received the special gift of your tooth. Thank you for taking such good care of your teeth, it's so wonderful for us in 'Fairyland' (or insert place here) to see children remembering to look after their teeth, they need to be strong and healthy to help us build our tooth castles for all the fairies to live in.

The wish fairy has told me that your favourite treat/toy is_____, and I've left instuctions with your mum and dad to pick it up for you later!

Remember to keep brushing, and I'll see you soon when I deliver your brand new tooth!

Lots of love to you Emmit,

The Tooth Fairy.

xoxoxo

Hope that helps!
Reply:You really should do it yourself. I'm sure you could write a note from the tooth fairy if you really tried.
Reply:u dont have to put money or make note u can put any thing the pillow he will bee happy
Reply:Aw. That's a wonderful idea. It's definitely about the principle of the story, not the money factor.

Um...how about something along the lines of:

Emmit, because you're doing such a good job at keeping your teeth clean and strong - your parents have a special treat waiting for you from me!

I'm not too good at it either lol.
Reply:you already answered your question. do exactly what you said, write him a note saying that your parents are going to get you a candy bar of your choice, or along those lines. if something goes wrong, he may get mad, but he will get over it. i've been there and i do not regret one thing my parents have done for me. they do what they think is right and i think you can too.
Reply:"Emmit dear! I would like to give you candy in exchange for your tooth. But I'm worried it will give you cavities. I want you to have the brightest smile ever, so I want you to have this magic toothbrush instead! Take care!"
Reply:Dear Emmit,

I am writing to thank you for the lovely tooth you left me. It will be ever so useful to me very soon. You might not know this, but I use all the teeth I collect to build great white castles on the clouds in the sky. As a thank you for your tooth, you will be rewarded a candy bar. It's waiting at the store for you and mommy and daddy will help you pick it up. Well I must disappear now- I have many more teeth to collect before dawn. Sleep well my dear!!

Lots of love,

The Tooth Fairy

Well i hope this helps ya! Good luck!
Reply:LOL Sandz note was by far the best!!! It sounds exactly like something a tooth fairy would say, and it's short and sweet!
Reply:If you have microsoft publisher on your pc, you can personalize a voucher, including adding pics from wordart. I did this for my kids and they were thrilled. If you haven't got publisher, just type it in Word and insert a little pic of a fairy.

If you can't do this, get a friend to write it for you so he doesn't recognise the writing.

Just a simple note like:

Dear Emmet, thank you very much for your beautiful tooth. The tooth fairies will use it to build a new castle.

Here is a voucher for (whatever you want) to say thank you.

Don't forget to keep brushing you teeth to keep them nice and pearly etc

Good luck
Reply:Dear Emmit

Thank you for letting me have your tooth. It was so nice and clean, you must brush every day!

I've had to collect lots and lots of teeth tonight. I'm very sorry but I've run out of money.

Don't worry because I have a special coupon just for Emmit. Only the most special boys and girls are allowed to have a tooth fair coupon.

If you ask mommy nicely she will be able to arrange a special treat for you.

Keep Brushing

Your Friend

The Tooth Fairy xoxo
Reply:Tell him: your parents are cheap and wont give you money for your tooth, next time try ebay.
Reply:Sorry you don't have the means to give even a quarter, leave little Emmit an IOU that Mommy will make good on because unfortunately the good children get the dollars and the tooth fairy didn't want to leave change under his pillow, oh and the change bag broke due to the neighbors dog chasing her. You will get that dollar, believe me. Children need imagination, even in this day and time. God Bless.
Reply:You got the ideas so put it into action.

My nine year old is asking me if the Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy, etc. exist, do I tell her the truth?

A few of the children in my daughter's class are telling her there is no such thing as the Easter Bunny, Santa, etc. She has asked me if I am the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and Santa. I have managed to put off answering her and while I don't want to lie to her, I am also not sure she is ready to know the truth. My older daughter was the same age when I told her the truth and she told me she wished I hadn't told her the truth. With Easter less than a week away, I'm torn! Is there any way to let your child know in a way that won't hurt?

My nine year old is asking me if the Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy, etc. exist, do I tell her the truth?
If you feel she is not ready to hear the truth - my answer is don't. Let her be a child for as long as is possible - my ten, nearly 11 year old daughter, has doubts, but still believes - childhood is too short these days as it is.... My son was about 7 (now 16) - and I cried because of the loss of inocence and wonder in magic. My 7 year old daughter - relishes in the magic and yes my 16 year old still helps the magic to stay alive along as possible for my girls. Your daughter will decide when she is ready and not before. Why destroy the things that truly keep childhood magical. As you are aware to tell can have long lasting repercussions emotionally. She will let you know in no uncertain terms when she is ready not to believe. Some of the questions, she has are probably more for reasurrance in their existance, that they are truly real!!
Reply:No i would not tell her that they are not true... i would just let her find out herself when she is older!!
Reply:If she's asking, she most likely already knows. I would tell her the truth if she asks.
Reply:She's nine years old she's not five anymore. Yes I think you should tell her the truth.
Reply:Ask her if she thinks they're real. More than likely she's already figured it out. I did when i was nine. Oh and keep in mind your daughters are different people and will take to things differently
Reply:If she's asking... she already knows. You upholding the lie now will be worse in the long run for her than telling the truth now. Explain it to her as a magic of being a young child and how she shouldn't ruin that for other children.

I remember being crushed as a child, not because those things aren't real but because my mom and dad had lied to me. As a parent you try to teach your child to be truthful and you tell them that you wouldn't lie to them.... so don't lie now.
Reply:at 9 years old? that's too old to be holding onto a lie.

Why do parents insist on doing this anyway. Our kids have never believed in that fake stuff, and they're just as happy as the next kid.
Reply:let her believe in them for awhile longer.. its nice as a kid to beleive in stuff like that. it makes life seem more magical. my parents never reallly told me that they werent real, i just learned as i got older, i think that is a good way to learn. dont lie to ur kids, u could make a joke about it or dont really answer her or something if she asks. like if she asks 'is santa real' you could say, 'if u dont beleive in him he wont come' or something..
Reply:I told mine that santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy, ect.. is only real to kids that believe in them. I wasn't lying to them.
Reply:I am 29 and I still believe in Santa, Easter bunny, etc. Tell your daughter if she wants to believe in them she can, but also tell her the truth about how YOU and others don't believe they exist.
Reply:you don't tell the truth. She is still young and as your older daughter said, she wishes she didn't know. It takes away the magic and wonder. If this is the first time she has asked I would not be telling. Just explain that if you believe they come, If you don't believe they don't
Reply:Personally, I think that nine is a little old to still believe in these things. But I recommend not lying to your child. If she is asking, she's gotten the idea but may be afraid to lose the Easter baskets and Santa Claus presents. When my children started asking, I would ask in return, "What do you think?" Wiehn you do have that talk, assure her that her favorite traditions will continue for as long as she wants them to. We still do Easter baskets and Santa presents even though my kids are way past that age.
Reply:I have a 10 year old son who has been asking for the past couple of years. My answer has always been... "What do you think?" He's always said, "I WANT to believe..." and I've told him... "then believe... I do!" and I do, I believe in the spirit of Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc.

Just the other day he saw a Walmart commercial that basically spills the beans about the Easter Bunny and he asked me point blank, "Mom, do you fill my easter basket"... to me that was a totally different question. I told him that I do. He asked if I put the Christmas presents under the tree... and I asked him, "do you really want to know?" he said, "No."

Ask more questions... does she REALLY want to know? If she does... then tell her. If not, let her hang onto it for awhile. You never get that time back....
Reply:just say that they arent
Reply:This is a very touchy situation for a child and for you as a parent. Telling them that there is no such person can be devistating. I told my children that there is no such single person but everyone has it in them. My youngest is realizing this and has his moments when he is angry that the tooth fairy, etc. didn't bring him what he wants. That's when I remind him of how many children are in the world and how busy they must be.

Then I tell him I love him more and get him something special not what he wanted but something else.
Reply:Let her believe, don't rob her of her childhood. Ask her if she believes deep down in her heart. let it be her choice. You and I are adults, but we make believe because our children do think they are real.
Reply:Well first of all...you said that you didn't want to lie to your children. What do you think telling them the easter bunny, santa, etc.. is? I personally think that you shouldn't tell children that those kind of fairy tales are real anyways. I would've told them the truth the minute they asked. I would not lie to my children because after they find out that it's not true, they'll be dissappointed that you lied to them. Just tell your child that indeed, you are the easter bunny, santa, and etc.

How is believing in "God" any different than believing in the Tooth Fairy?

Neither one can be seen

There's no real proof that either one has ever existed

I will say this though, at least the tooth fairy leaves you money, God just wants it.

How is believing in "God" any different than believing in the Tooth Fairy?
If you have enough faith, the toothfairy is real! :)
Reply:*drink*

it isn't
Reply:Wow! You seem to be in need of a little faith.
Reply:Lol that thing about money is classic :)
Reply:WHAT NO tooth fairy? lol......... BUT this is a Good question
Reply:If that's your question, then you've already made up your mind. Believe in the tooth fairy. Question resolved.
Reply:Santa says they both exist
Reply:The tooth fairy didn't have a historically verifiable existence. Nor was it ever even CLAIMED to be seen on Mt Sinai or anything like that.
Reply:They're pretty much the same in many respects, but at least belief in a tooth fairy doesn't result in discrimination, persecution, torture, murder, war, child abuse etc... (as far as I know!).
Reply:You mean the tooth fairy isn't real? =( Then who was the one that left the money under my pillow?

musta been a leprechaun..
Reply:You will believe in the life after death.

There is one God Allah, who ceated all the universe and everything .
Reply:You have seen evidence that the Tooth Fairy is not real. Your parents have either been "caught in the act", or eventually revealed it to be a hoax.

However, there IS evidence of God's existance. Do you believe that the universe created itself? Matter cannot be created or destroyed, and for there to be no God, there is no creator for the matter, and it would have existed forever, which is strongly disagreed with in the "Big Bang Theory".

If anything, all scientific hypotheses that can be grounded in logic and fact either directly or indirectly affirms the existance of God.

I will not even begin to mention the "things that can't be explained" category. I believe I have offered enough proof.

I hope that I have convinced you. :)
Reply:The tooth fairy has never had a conversation with me.

God has had many.

You do the math.
Reply:interesting question
Reply:How is believing in "God" more 'right' or 'correct' than believing in any other god, past or present? Most religions explain "our creation" so why can't they all exist?

I mean, seriously. Who DOESN'T think the Flying Spaghetti Monster is real?
Reply:Imagine if on 9/11, the hijackers said, "We're doing this for the Tooth Fairy".
Reply:God doesn't want your money... He Himself can create fortune that can outweigh the universe.

i can prove to you God exists... i can only lead you to the water though friend, you have to drink of it. Jesus Christ is knocking at your heart's door, if you let Him in, I gaurantee you, you will know Him. and you'll live the rest of your life wondering how you ever made it without Him.

you ready? you're a sinner, just as i was and everyone was/is. you cannot see God because your sin has caused Him to resist you. here comes the water... Jesus Christ paid your's/mine/everyone's sin debt by becoming sin itself, and killing it on the cross. now, if you can drink from that cup, then i have proven to you that God exists, and He will make Himself known to you.

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21
Reply:Both God and the Tooth Fairy are the same in the sense that, at a certain point in one's life, you learn the new, real truth, and then move on. The tooth fairy is a type of crutch, created by parents for a variety of reasons.

The belief in 'God' and religion is no different:

It is a profitable kind of crowd control.
Reply:In the Bronze Age, monotheism represented the logical evolution from polytheism which itself evolved from animism and represented a way to explain natural phenomena whose true origin was unknown.

Today, belief in anything supernatural is absurd.
Reply:do you believe in the tooth fairy... or just Nessie and Bigfoot and Aliens from Gamma 6?

Who is more likely to have existed? Jesus or the the tooth fairy?

There is about as much evidence to support the existence of the tooth fairy as there is to support the existance of Jesus Christ. But who is more likely to have existed?

Who is more likely to have existed? Jesus or the the tooth fairy?
Jesus takes my money, tooth fairy gives me money.
Reply:trollin' trollin' trollin' keep them doggies trollin'

(There are numerous non-biblical accounts of the existance of Jesus of Nazareth - including Roman records. Try again)
Reply:Jesus, faith is evidence of things not seen, but when it's right you know it.
Reply:Jesus. I don't believe that Jesus was the Son of God, had a virgin mother, created miracles, or rose from the dead, but a guy who was possibly named Yeshua and fits the Jesus description did exist.
Reply:I have evidence of the tooth fairy: when I put a tooth I lost under my pillow and go to sleep, when I wake up it's a quarter! Someone told me it was my parents, but my dad certainly can't turn teeth into quarters.

(Even my comical evidence is better then what people have presented to me as proof of Jesus)
Reply:well it being that the tooth fairy has been admitted by parents to be a man made concept then Id say Jesus. The tooth fairy has been proven to not exist so maybe Jesus.
Reply:Jesus. This topic is religion. If you don't believe in the Bible then what are you doing in the religion category?
Reply:im sorry, Jesus of nazureth WAS a real person, there is almost no debate about that, the debate is whether or not he was the son of god/resurrected/all that good stuff.

I am looking for a horror movie. it is about a tooth fairy. any ideas? thanks yahoo community.?

the movie is a horror movie. it came out last around this time i really am not sure of the title. i think it is the tooth fairy but could be wrong.

I am looking for a horror movie. it is about a tooth fairy. any ideas? thanks yahoo community.?
Do you mean Darkness Falls (2003)?

Starring: Chaney Kley, Emma Caufield

Summary: In the 1800's there was a woman that little children would take their old teeth (ones they had recently lost) to in exchange for a gold coin. A few years later, tragedy struck her, first a fire in her house which caused her to not be able to go into any type of light, and then she was hanged. There's a story that goes around the town of Darkness Falls about her, and she's called the Tooth Fairy. The story goes that she can't go in the light, and if you wake up and see her, she'll kill you. The usual saying is "Don't Peek." Well, there is a boy named Kyle who gets a warning from his friend Caitlin to not peek. Well, he wakes up on the night when the Tooth Fairy is supposed to come and get his last tooth and sees her. It all leads to more tragedy and the movie jumps to 12 years later. Now grown up, Caitlin calls Kyle because her little brother Michael is going through the same things he did as a boy, and wants his help. Kyle goes back to Darkness Falls to face his past, and the woman in the porcelain mask (aka the Tooth Fairy).

Reply:The only one I could think of recently is :

"Darkness Falls"

A vengeful spirit has taken the form of the Tooth Fairy to exact vengeance on the town that lynched her 150 years earlier. Her only opposition is the only child, now grown up, who has survived her before.
Reply:Darkness Falls. I remember watching it a few years ago. It was really different but I remember enjoying some of it.
Reply:In addition to Darkness falls, there is a movie called The Tooth Fairy. It was a Canadian movie released last year. It didn't have any names I recognize, Lochlyn Munro and Chandra West.
Reply:DARKNESS FALLS. IN FACT IF YOU WANT A COPY LET ME KNOW. I'LL GIVE YOU A SITE TO GO ON AND GET IT
Reply:darkness falls
Reply:Yeah, it's called "Darkness Falls". Don't expect too much though..it pretty much blows.
Reply:darkness falls
Reply:or either a movie that came out direct to dvd called Tooth Fairy...in the Masters of Horror dvd collection
Reply:I could ask my dentist if he has any home movies :-)

Christians, do you understand that God to Atheist is like the tooth fairy to you?

What would you think if someone said "The tooth fairy still loves you"

All of you have been deceived. The Christian pastors, Christian scientists and Christian authors are lying to you.

Christians, do you understand that God to Atheist is like the tooth fairy to you?
Oh, you're so getting coal from Santa this year! :P
Reply:Hello? See what I'm holding? A doll-ah. See? The tooth fairy gave it to me! You can't bully and steal others' teeth because she'll know it!
Reply:Woah....you're right. I've been deceived all these years. All those experiences and feelings that I thought went beyond my senses must not have been divine at all. I guess it was just indigestion.
Reply:"the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God." I Cor. 1:18
Reply:Charlie, you're back and still no shirt! Not quite the peace loving gent in your checkm website presents, tossing insults and picking fights. Calling people names and ridiculing them b/c "?"
Reply:that was great and seriously, to all christians, the tooth fairy really does love everyone, even though we have all sinned against it
Reply:Where is your shirt?
Reply:The hat is good, but you still haven't found any clothing yet!!!
Reply:Are you not capable of think of your own question as someone else has already posted a similar yet better one a while back in a more intellegent way.

Is this the only place where you can gain some attention? Try and get a hobby.
Reply:And an Atheist, to a Christian, who continues to argue against a God, already acknowledges by his arguments that there is indeed a God.
Reply:What's your point? It's still our duty to proclaim our beliefs in order to bring about our Savior's return. If God is your tooth fairy, ignore Him like we ignore the tooth fairy (that is...bring her out only when we need her). I listen to preachers but I obey the Word of God. The Holy Bible.
Reply:The reason an athiest can't find God is the exact same reason a thief can't find a cop.
Reply:It is your choice what you want to believe. I can not do more than speak what I believe is the truth. Someday, we will both know...won't we?
Reply:No the tooth fairy is a level '3' and God is a level 'infinity'.
Reply:That would not get us to go to the tooth fairy forum though to have to disprove it. It is so fact that tooth fairy does not exist and we have no need to persecute and ridicule others for believing in the tooth fairy.

I think this proves a point that God does exist for the irony of it all.

Good Job, one for the going Home team
Reply:OMG, you mean Jesus leaves a dollar bill under your pillow? AWESOME!!!
Reply:In a way, that is true.

But - nobody who is not a child believes in the tooth fairy. Nobody who is not a child has ever believed in the tooth fairy. Everyone who is not a child agrees (throughout history, and today) that the tooth fairy does not exist. There is absolutely no doubt in any non-child's mind that the tooth fairy does not exist. Parents put money under their children's pillows. The children find this out as they grow older, and do it themselves when they have kids.

In contrast: The majority of the people in the world today, and historically, believe there is a God. Many of these people believe very very strongly that there is a God. Many of these people are very rational people who have put a lot of thought into what is true, what isn't, what they believe and why. They have reasons that seem very good and logical to them to believe in God - the same way that atheists have reasons that seem very good and logical to them to not believe in God.

Thus - when an atheist says "I don't believe in God" - there will be proportionally at least two adults who say "I do believe in God". Rationally speaking, it seems unlikely that the majority of the world are so stupid as to believe in a tooth-fairy-equivalent for absolutely no reason except that they wish it to be true. It seems a little presumptious to dismiss God as necessarily non-existant by using the "he is like the tooth fairy" logic.

So to say "I don't believe in God" is not the same as saying "I don't believe in the tooth fairy". This is because:

1. as far back as we can document, there have been people who believe in a God. This is not true for the tooth fairy.

2. adults (many rational and thoughtful) believe in a God. Not true for the tooth fairy.

3. the majority of the world's people today believe in a God. Not true for the tooth fairy.

4. It is possible, and occurs frequently, that people who choose to believe in God will continue to do so all their lives despite of 'proof' etc to the contrary from secular society and atheists. Not true for the tooth fairy - everyone ceases belief in the tooth fairy once its non-existance is explained.

5. The benefits of belief in God far far far outweigh any benefits of belief in a tooth fairy (if this were not true we would become traumatised, angry, disillusioned, depressed adults after realising our tooth fairy saviour did not exist).

In conclusion: Belief in a tooth fairy is hugely more stupid/irrational than belief in God. Proof: no adult believes in the tooth fairy but most adults believe in a God. Therefore belief in a tooth fairy is not the same as belief in God. Therefore not all believers in God are as stupid and silly and naive as many atheists seem to believe.

Believers in God should respect atheists, who obviously have rational reasons for their belief, and atheists should respect and not totally discredit believers in God (basically calling them entirely stupid and illogical). Believers and atheists should realize and accept that there is a possibility (however remote it seems) that they could be very very wrong. If they accept this possibility, they will realize why they should respect the beliefs of people who believe differently from them.
Reply:I understand one thing, you are trying very hard to make others believed that what you said is the true, perhaps is although to you, your own God have make you twist everything, and you have done a dam good Job trying to deceived others?, is that true, or just a fairy tall me, How, about it?.

Is comparing a belief in a Deity to a belief in the tooth fairy intellectually honest?

Seriously, when you say that believing in God is like believing in Pink Unicorns, are you prepared to prove that, somewhere in the reaches of space, there is not a planet that has pink unicorns running around on it?

Every culture has some form of a belief in "little people". Can you prove that there are not, or have never been, leprechauns, fairies, sprites, gnomes, elves, etc?? Perhaps they visited long ago in a UFO...I don't know. YOU don't know.

Has anyone ever found big foot? No? Does that "prove" that all the people who claim to have seen him are liars?

What about Nessie? I firmly believe that there is something living in the Great Lakes...I believe this because when I was a kid I used to go out to the lake early in the morning to swim in the summer...and I have seen whatever-it-is, as well as felt it in the water with me. I am not prepared to say it is or is not a

cousin of the Loch Ness Monster, because I don't know. But it wasn't a fish.

The tooth fairy? I know her. She's me.

Is comparing a belief in a Deity to a belief in the tooth fairy intellectually honest?
You missed the point of the invisible pink unicorn and things of that nature. It is to combat the belief that just because something cannot technically be disproved, that automatically makes it equally likely to be true or not. Just because someone cannot disprove the earth was created by a giant flying spaghetti monster, does it make it equally likely to be true or not?
Reply:If other than God.............than Yes.
Reply:God is similar to the Tooth Fairy. He's just for adults.
Reply:That depends on the perception of deity. I agree that this comparison is intillectually honest IF you are talking about an anthropomorphic deity. But not all people view deity that way. Some people are pantheists (like me). Pantheists are people who view the universe itself as deity - impersonal and quite scientific. So...
Reply:I am more likely to believe in the tooth faerie then I am a so called god of any kind
Reply:no, i can't prove there are no pink unicorns somewhere in the universe, that's kinda the point. just because you can't prove the non-existence of something, doesn't mean it probably exists and isn't an argument for it's existence.

i've only ever seen the comparison used when the old 'prove god doesn't exist' argument gets pulled out of the hat. in this situation it makes perfect sense and you kinda used the argument yourself here.

i just read your additional and i don't get what your question is. you seem to be arguing against your own argument.
Reply:It's just a crutch for atheists.
Reply:Yes, it is. Neither has any hard evidence to support their existence. Belief is not reality.
Reply:Yes.

Both are imaginary, both reward correct observence (is that a word?)... neither can be seen. And they both can do things that are impossible.

As to rest of the rant...

"Seriously, when you say that believing in God is like believing in Pink Unicorns, are you prepared to prove that, somewhere in the reaches of space, there is not a planet that has pink unicorns running around on it?"

-No, I'm not. This is the "proving a negative" argument again. If you claim something unlikely, the proving falls to you. You wouldn't take just my word about the invisible dragon in my garage... you'd want me to prove it.

"Every culture has some form of a belief in "little people"."

-Really? Each one? Are you sure? Or is it again my job to prove your claim to be untrue? Did you look for negatives for this claim, or do you leave it to other people since your guess is for some reason absolutely valid? Do you know the mythology of every human and alien culture?

"Can you prove that there are not, or have never been, leprechauns, fairies, sprites, gnomes, elves, etc?? "

-I can show that there is no evidence to their existence, but yet again, proving something isn't there is impossible.

"Perhaps they visited long ago in a UFO...I don't know. YOU don't know."

-So you don't know, and that's why I should believe in them? Are you saying you DO believe in my dragon?

"Has anyone ever found big foot? No? Does that "prove" that all the people who claim to have seen him are liars?"

-Yes and no, they might not lie on purpose, but human are notoriously bad at making observations; question 5 witnesses to a crime,

and you get 6 different descriptions ;) And there is NO bigfoot.

"What about Nessie?"

-Not enough food to support a creature that size, not enough room for a breeding colony of nessies, and the sonar mapping came up empty. It's pretty solid there's no chance of nessie.

As for the teapot... I've heard rumors that the russian cosmonauts found it, and use it on special occations.

I know you know that proving the negative isn't that simple, you can't wish it away by semantic circular logic. Existence of god is a positive claim; it claims there is something. Non-exitence is the negative side. Not believing in non-existence would be again a positive; it's a double negative :P

So there!

Btw, you still owe me for my last 2 wisdom teeth.
