What is a reasonable rate for the tooth fairy?

I asked a previous question and in the details explained about a child from my son's school getting $5 for a tooth. Someone said that was ridiculous so now I'm wondering what is a reasonable rate. I thought $5 was fair.

What is a reasonable rate for the tooth fairy?
LOL!!! That is hilarious. I love it.

When I was a kid I got anywhere between 25cents to a 1.00. I think $5.00 is fair. You know there really isn't much a kid could get for a dollar this day and age.

This is just a cute suggestion. Get some of those gold dollars and make him think he got something REALLY SPECIAL

You can get them at a bank or if you buy stamps out of the machine at a post office you can get them that way too
Reply:You are very welcome. :) Report It

Reply:I think 4 quarters is good
Reply:wow, i got a buck. but with inflation, i guess thats alright.
Reply:I think $5-$10. Depending on the kids age.
Reply:Well, I always gave $1 per tooth. Many of my friends gave nothing to their children. I guess it depends on your financial situation.
Reply:i think $5 is fair for today's children
Reply:There is no tooth fairy! Come to reality already..my gosh! do u still believe in Santa???LOL
Reply:i always got $1.00 therefore my kids do to.
Reply:I always got a nice shiny silver dollar, the kid lost a tooth it shouldn't be so much money for a lost tooth. I was excited about the dollar.
Reply:depending on the financial sitituation i would go and give my child 5.00 a tooth if i had it to give it to him depending on his age to.... (unlike full house episode steph gets 20.00 from the tooth fairy)
Reply:I think $5 is pretty steep! I mean think about how many teeth they're going to loose at $5 a pop that's a lot of money. We do $1 either in quarters or a bill. The most we have done is $3, but she lost two teeth on the same day. We also tell our children the tooth fairy won't leave money for teeth with cavities to make sure they brush good.
Reply:I gave my kid a $5 bill for her first lost tooth only because I'd rather her buy a toy or fancy hair ribbons, ect instead of candy (which about all you could buy for a dollar).

The rest she has lost, the toothfairy has given her small token gifts: Color pencils (she's big into drawing), a stuffed animal, stuff for her hair, nail polish, ect.

25 years ago I got a dollar for my first lost tooth. There were a lot of thing back then I could buy! Cant get a can of soda and a candy bar for a dollar now.
Reply:My daughter recently lost her first tooth and the debate was on. I thought a quarter was fine. She's only 5. My husband said $10 and my parents agreed with him. His parents said $5. I gave her $1 and thought it was too much. The next morning when she saw the dollar she came running in and said the tooth fairy must really love her. When I asked why she said she got a WHOLE DOLLAR and "Arthur" only got a quarter for his!!! Does your son watch "Arthur" on PBS? I think you should pay whatever you feel is fair and you can afford to do many times in the future.
Reply:Depends on how money's treated in your house. My kids like anything--we've even resorted to a pack of socks once.
Reply:My kids get $5 a pop. My husband says that's too much, but really, what can you buy with a couple of quarters these days? Also, kids only have so many teeth to lose. Once they're gone, so it the tooth fairy. Let them enjoy it while they can.
Reply:tooth fairy, Santa, Easter bunny, on and on, Do you remember when you figured out that the one person you trusted with everything,,,,,,, was lying?
Reply:The toothfairy brings a dollar for a tooth in our house, Unless of course it was a tooth with a filling, then they are only worth .25. But that is to get them to brush better and not make mommy have to pay the dentist.
Reply:ask her she has a going rate of 50 1st tooth gold dollar!
