Why do parents lie to kids about Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?

Hey, life is not always sweet and good like fairy tales. That's reality.

Why do parents lie to kids about Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?
The world of make-believe is an essential part of growing. Without it one does not have a good sense of what is real (or reality as you called it). Your heart must be hardened for some reason, and you probably don't enjoy simple things in life. Don't know why, doesn't really matter. If you want life to be without wonderment and fascination, so be it. I don't. The "child" in me believes in the ability to be just that - a child with no preconceived ideas of what to do or how to act.

I am sad that this does not exist in your world.
Reply:My personal theory is that they just needed a excuse to give their kids presents and it has perpetuated itself.
Reply:I think the whole Santa Claus myth is a wonderful way to begin to teach the concept of "having faith", in that, I don't neccesarily mean the religion type, but being able to believe in something without having to see/touch it. We all need a little magic in our lives and when you have it as a kid, it's easier to hang on to a small bit of it when reality starts really biting your butt as an adult.
Reply:You are right but on another note, people want there children to keep there imagination for as long as possible before they have to go out into the real world and find out how bad it sucks!! There imagination is something very important, the longer they can have it the better, this just feeds it a little bit more--I know that I would want to keep my daughter form the real world for as long as I can-I realize that she has to grow up and it will not always be this way, however if it will make it more fun for her then why not!! I remember believing in Santa, how excited I was to know that 1 person went through the whole world in one night to share his love with everyone, come on now, you have to admit that was a great feeling, right? I want my daughter to hang on to these moments of being excited over the little things in life--Life is way to serious when you grow up, you forget the important things!! :)
Reply:Hey, wouldnt you agree that the world is full of sh**?

Going to work, paying bills, getting into debt, getting married, getting divorced, terrorists, rapists, child abusers, drug addicts, victims of natural disasters...

Am sure have forgotten a whole bunch of other things but those were just a few examples...

AND THAT IS THE REASON WE LIE TO OUR KIDS ABOUT SANTA CLAUS AND THE TOOTH FAIRY...

Kids are brought into the world with having been asked if they want to...

And when they grow up, they will have a lot of sh** to deal with.. SO WHY NOT, WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG GIVE THEM SOME NICE FANTASY????
